Spent the day over at the wrecks today.

Was disapointed to see how much of the beach has been washed away by the heavy westerly wind waves.

The water is now not far below the sandhills now at high tide with single vehicle access only possible without dipping the wheels. The bottom of the sandhills have a metre high cliff edge where the waves have eaten into the hills.

Not much of a beach left where the 4wd's used to bunch up and wait for the boat.

I have often wondered about that over there and how it fixes it self, if at all.

I didn't realise it was that bad, I think the resort has been taking sand from somewhere near there (not sure where). Hopefully some sand will rebuild there, or it's going to be very dangerous during the peak holiday periods.

It makes you wonder if the sand will ever return, I was at Double Island today and you cannot drive along Rainbow Beach at any other time than low tide and then i dont think there would be much beach (pics here :// (http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=111394)http (http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=111394)www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=111394 (http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=111394))
It is not that long ago there were lagoons between where you come out of the Leisha track and Double island Point. Could it be all the traffic shifting the sand or just changes in weather. Also the barge opperators at Inskip point will have to start dredging between there and Fraser Island because i would say in 5 to 10 years you will be able to drive to Fraser Island from Inskip.

I'm taking the guys who work for me over there at the end of July for the weekend. Just checked the timetable and it looks like we will arrive at the wrecks about half an hour before high tide... in the dark!!!

How dangerous did it look to be arriving at this time and having to drive north along the beach to a camping zone on the western side?

Apparently Moreton Island grows at rate to the west at One metre per year and a few years ago worrying about what are going to do with the Tangalooma wrecks because be cover within forty years just like the other ship wrecks in the area been covered by sand
For Tangalooma wrecks there is 13 government departments the all have something to with the wrecks at State and Local + Federal level and all have to agree on keep wrecks surrounded by water ( I can't see that happening)
At least what recently happen to the beach getting wash away may prolong the life of the Tangalooma wrecks

i guess the sand hills spread down and form the beach , hope it sorts itself out by november , dont wanna be campin right on the shoreline , long as it doesnt affect the fishing ill live
