G'day rod builders,

I want to build a boat rod 10 - 15kg for bottom fishing and the odd cast with metal jigs or live bait. The reel i'm going to use is either a torium 16 or a torsa 16n. I was looking at a Samurai NV9 but at 7 foot I think its a bit long. Is it possible to cut the blank down to 6 foot? What end do you cut, the tip, but or both? If any one has a recipe for what i'm after that would be great.

i just bought the NV10, very happy with it i am amazed at how thin these blanks are. I think the NV9 is for spinning only but someone else might be able to clarify that. I can't see why you couldn't cut it off at the but end if you want it slightly shorter.

Cheers

i wouldn't be cutting the blank too much, especially knocking a foot off a 7 foot blank, it will change the action too much. do not know the blank, but if, for arguments sake it is a fast taper you could change it to a med, or even a slow by trimming that much off it..:P
you are better off buying a blank closer to what suits what your needs., then if nessecary you can trim millimeters, maybe cms if required..

Thats what I was thinking.

How do you go about painting a blank? what paint do you use?
