I met a reel tech some time ago and he advised me that a "fishing guru" from up north had an upgraded washer and lube package for TLD's. Maybe not specifically for them but apparently it kicks the performance of the drag up a gear.
This tech was a Penn man so I don't think he was giving me a bum steer. If anybody knows anything about this could you PM me with details please. I think the guy said he comes from cairns. Hadn't been an issue till this summer as I hadn't caught anything that had me worried about the longevity of my reels until now, very nearly smoked it and cant afford to get any thing better just yet.

Glenn,
Daz is correct Jack Erskine (in Cairns) is a certified fishing legend and does a lot of work nationally & internationally for pro gamefishing crews modding & blue-printing game reels.
Specifically, for the TLD, there is a stock 'Carbontex' drag upgrade that you can fit yourself if you have basic tools and ability to strip a reel. Jack will also do it for you for a reasonable fee, however he tends to be pretty busy and it may take a month or so, but the advantage is that he can 'tweak' it to maintain free-spool at full drag etc.
I'd also recommend the Tyrnos handle as a good upgrade.

Glenn,
Have a look at the next page or so.
I just posted an upgrade tutorial on the TLD's if you want to have a crack at it yourself.

Nailed it
Thanks guys I was never going to figure it out. I talked to Jack this morning and he gave me the specifics of his product, it sounds good.
I asked him about the tyrnos handle for the TLD and he said as long as it isn't the original 4.2-1 geared models that had a problem stripping gears and the later 3.6-1 variety then it would be fine. Thanks for that as well!!
I will let you know how it goes.
Cheers Glenn
