Hello everyone,
i was just wondering how many of you have heard about the new outboard Jet drives by Mercury, also i think a few other brands have touched on them a bit
eg Yamaha.
anyway what do you think about them??
I havent seen any boat shop that sells them only a few pics on google and the mercury website.
do you reckon they will be embraced?

when i was in nz back in 1999- 2000 i saw one over there, can,t remember what brand it was but it looked pretty cool...........thirsty
Jet units are about the least effiicient means of moving a vessel. I'd be quite surprised if they made them in high hp configurations.
I'd be interested to know the logic behind their decision to produce them. What does their marketing say?
Cheers
I once saw a 215hp jet tiller steer merc o/b on the daly river about 10 years ago a guy from mildura owned it,itwas on a 16ft punt and built for some swamps near there. It was a wild bit of gear! Dan..

they also have inboard ones- the 200 optimax, 240 EFI, and the 250 Optimax M2, i think they only make 25hp and 40hp in the outboard range.

Yeah the yamaha ones have been around for donkeys, OMC also, pretty sure merc kept up with the competition, the Yam 90 3cyl engine in jet was rated as a 65hp at the jet I think so they certainly created come losses. Possibly a bit better today. The Yanks love em.

In 1999 when i was pricing o/b motors they were in the standard merc brochure dunno what hp they went up to for here but i definatly saw that 215hp it's a pretty weird size for a engine.Dan

In the mid 90`s Mariner made a 60hp model i think...they became quite popular with the fish farms for awhile...due to going over floating ropes ect..
