These are great boats. Why so cheap?

the motor is a 90hp and the vikings were 17 footers. (or 5.2m)
selling cheap because i need to offload it quick to get the dollars for a house deposit and then get something a bit smaller for now.

sorry forgot to answer the other question. the original seafarer hulls had a bad habit of getting dryrot in the and the transoms would get very soft. this boat must have had this problem once before and all the stringers and transom have been replaced. i have receipts for about $5500 from about 2002 i think for the repairs done by seafarer themselves.

AHH it is good to see another honest Seafarer owner, most people are in denial that they could possibly have problems A bit like Yamaha motors I guess! anyway, not really anything to do with your boat sale, so I will go now!

????????????? ok?

what I was getting at ws a lot of Seafarers had floor trouble, and they are a very wet boat, but most prefer to not mention that.

Hi Noelm

Wet boat? More detail pls, I feel I'm missing something here.

Thanks

wet boat are u serious??? i suppose not all fisherman know boats hey?
they were one of the original boats with a reverse chine which so many boat companies are raving about these days.
what wonder rig do u run noel?
a bag on yamahas too? must be an etec owner pmsl.

Noelm
03-08-2007, 09:26 AM
nope, no etec owner, but have been a Seafarer owner for a lot of years as well as a seafarer re seller, so I guess most fishermen 'who know boats" tend to bend the truth a tad, have either of you anchored in a good chop and had a 'refreshing shower " over the windscreen?? or been in that silly little hatch pulling the anchor in a chop?? nope I geuss not, other wise if "you knew boats" you would also agree that they are wet!! not to mention being side onto a decent wind and having the hull "smack" down on one side, OH yeah "I know boats"

Chimo

Hi Noelm

Yes I do agree the front hatch could get you wet if you were standing there moving forward in the wrong chop but with an anchor retriever and bouy (not boy) why would one even think about manually pulling an anchor, esp if out on the 24s or where ever by youself?

yet to get much over the screen maybe its to do with speed motor trim and tabs

Also never had the side smack issue either so I'll conceed maybe 1 out out of 3 to you.

Where do you do your dealing/ PM if you want.

Cheers
Chimo

Seafarers a wet boat?, I guess anything is a wet boat in high enough seas, but to be honest I heard for years how they are among the finest boats made, and after owning one the ride is far better than most in rough seas.
I am talking about a Vsea, mine is 1980 and the transome is perfect, floor is no problem either, and if your worried about getting a little wet or a little wave slapping the side of your boat, you need another pasttime.

Chimo

Hi Mako101

I think Noelm is taking about wet in the front if you run forward at about 2kn into 1 m high short chop with about 100kg leaning forward out thru the hatch pulling in an anchor.

He is correct as I did it "once" in my Vag and then realized I was being a b dill.

Agree they are a dry soft riding boat otherwise esp with Lenco tabs to make sure the bow enters on the Vee and not leaning on the shoulder.

Cheers
Chimo

being a "wet" boat lends to the boat being wet when underway not when at anchor. as for water coming over the front thats another issue all together. i had a v17c haines that had water come over the front also ad they were also a very "dry" boat.

Noelm
06-08-2007, 07:08 AM
hhhmm so a 17 foot boat that needs trim tabs so it does not "smack" on its side, yep that' s a winner, and you will get wet if you are going into a good wind, but slightly off to "straight ahead" a direction I had to do from a place I fished for many years, I guess this is not the correct place to be having this 'debate" as it is a for sale section, and I worked for an OMC/Seafarer dealer from about the late 70's for over 10 years.

That means it only look 6 years for the transom and stringers to rot out from new! Something doesn't add up here.

matt__hill

the hull is a 1989 so to me that equals about 13 years when i went to school

From the original post:

Seafarer Viking
1996 Johonno v4 Oceanrunner
1996 Multiroll trailer

He chose not to mention the hull age. If it has been re powered and has a new trailer then it is a bit of a coincidence that they are both 1996 models.

even at 13 years it is still not "up to scratch" there is a lot of very old boats going around more than 13 years that have never had major repairs.

Of course, and not only seafarers I guess.
I think this viking was a buy and half though to be honest.
My Vsea is 27 years old and as far as I know the transom or floor has never been replaced and there is no problem with the boat, and a heck of a ot of admirers, no cracks or deterioration at all so I don`t understand all the criticism.
I think they are great value for money generally.

just typical keyboard wankers mate. just love to rag on someone elses shit because they are either jealous or just know alls

Noelm
15-08-2007, 08:22 AM
know alls huh! hhmm at least I have owned both a v sea and a Viking, and never said they were not good value or a good boat, BUT they are not the be all to end all, they are very popular and hold their value, I just like to see both sides to any thing, the good side and the down side that's all, I do not take too kindly to being called a "know all" or a "keyboard ######"just because I do not agree with what YOU say! If you have been boating in or owned half as many boats as me I will be very surprised.

Noelm
15-08-2007, 08:57 AM
OH and as I said before, this is NOT the place to debate this, it is a for sale section!

THink you are right Aj,I have seen people banned for such BS.
It's a for sale section and if people want to start a debate on the pro's and con's of a particular product then they should have the courtesy to bugger off and start a thread in the appropriate section of the forum.
Just glad Matt was able to sell the boat before the rot really started.
