After selling my brand new 4.1 polycraft a few months ago due to lack of use,It's driving me and amanda nuts not owning our own boat,Ive been searching the net for a while now looking for new fibreglass open boats but couldnt find any company's that made them until now,I was looking in the sunday mail last weekend and noticed a company that imports fibreglass 4 metre dingies at a decent price,They look well made and have a very deep V so i guess they would handle the moreton bay chop a bit better than the 4.1 V nose poly punt i owned,Anyone who's seen these boats or has any opinions on them tell me what you think.

cheers tim :)

Someone on here must know the name of those little open cats that were about 12-14 foot...Devil cat does ring a bell...they were a great little sea and work boat...but i am unsure if they are still being made...

Cheers Mick

G'day Tim,
Mate you should look at the 4.55 poly. Alternatively, Haines Hunter make one around 4.5 - 4.9 metres that's available in different configurations.

On another note, the little poly now has a 40 Yammie 2st PTT and goes like a scalded cat. It rides brilliantly in chop. In half-metre chop you just go faster, and the ride is one of the best in a small boat I've been in. It still wouldn't ride as nicely as a good glass hull though.

Cheers mate,
Craig

It may not be Haines Hunter Tim. I just checked their website and couldn't see it, although their Prowler Range looks good. The boat I was thinking of was designated something like TD 149. Maybe someone else could help with the maker?

Ok, it's Haines Traveler. www.hainestraveler.com (http://www.hainestraveler.com)

There's a brief test at: www.modernboating.com.au/boat_tests/boat_tests/1/408/Haines-Traveler-TD149 - 17k -

Hey Craig im glad to hear your enjoying my old poly,I bet it goes well with the 40 on the back,After i sold the poly i looked into the haines traveler TD 149 and checked one out at endless summer marine down at tweed,I didnt like the look of the boat it looks like it would sit very low to the water,The traveler is also pretty heavy at around 300kg so a 50hp tiller would be needed.

Here's a couple of photos i took of the TD 149

cheers tim :)

Hi Tim, you may have seen this already, the latest "The Fishing DVD" (Number 7) has a couple of small segments featuring a pototype boat (not available yet) made by the Full Boar company. It's called a Barrabay, and the segments are hosted by Steve Starling. The first is in the "Trolling with Yamaha" segment. The video that refers to the boat is at the end of the segment called "Loddon River Natives" after the adverts for the guided fishing. There is a website - http://www.barrabayboats.com.au but it's not completely up and running. There is also a couple of photos of the boat on the "spooled" website. The link is -

Hey mack_1 after watching the "The Fishing DVD" (Number 7) about a week or two ago i ran a google search on the barrabay boats and found the sites you listed,The boats look very nice but i suspect they will have a very nice price tag too as there built by fullboar,I cant honestly see them being around the 10k mark for a boat, motor, trailer package,And i would really like too keep my budget around 10k.

cheers tim :)

You're right Tim, still, your 10k should get you something decent, there's a lot of boats out there...

Cheers,

Mack_1 :)
