Hi everyone, I`m just wondering what the bar at pt. cartwright is like to cross.I`ve got a 5.1 metre coxcraft rumrunner,It`s got a 115hp mercury on it. thanks, Scott.8-)
If your launching in the river at Mooloolaba, there is no bar to cross.

Thanks mate, I`m thinking about heading out there soon. I was just wondering if the bar there can get to rough to cross.

Virtually no bar at. If the swell gets real big (3 or 4m) it can break, but you wouldn't be going out in those conditions anyway.

You still need to be a bit careful. Not sure what its like right now but the entrance often has a silted up area right in front that can break in a bit of swell. You won't hit bottom, but waves can stand up and break there unexpectedly. It is normally deep beside the western breakwater so you can nearly always run out through that channel and then NW into the bay for a bit, before turning to head out to sea.

gday head out of the moloolah river twice a week including night returns and leaves generally very safe. personally i wouldn't call it a coastal bar in a 5.1m like yours its safe to leave and return on any tide unless 3 to 4 meter swell is up. uncomfortable making your way in in strong NE winds but you are at no risk of running aground. I usually take a wide approach leaving rock walls to stay away from wishy woshy water around headland.
