I get squid and bugs and stuff from the markets, not fish though. We spend enough money catching the things, don't want to spend any more buying them.

even though I catch more fish than I could eat, I still go to the markets for all sorts of stuff (including bait) like where do I catch myself an Atlantic Salmon, King prawns (cooked and green) Mussels, scallops and so on, if you want some of these things for special occasions or a special recipe, you HAVE to buy them, so it is not to be seen as an embarasing thing, it just has to be done sometimes, but I do not buy say Snapper, Bream, Flathead, Blue Eye and Tuna that is what I get in my area, so no need to buy them.

If I had to rely on what I catch I would hardly ever eat fish. I quite often come home without any keepers. Somedays I cannot lose yabbies from my hook!!!

80% of my meals are fish and can only go out once a week. So do the figures.

Hi El_Carpo
Those fuel costs are pretty drastic.

Would you rather these(per litre)

melbourne unleaded fuel trends for the last week

I usually have enough stock of fish in the freezer to see me through winter....What the hell are you doing buying Atlantic Salmon Noelm....Yuck....They are a pest down here....That is our main source of bait....The crays and sharks love em...

Cheers Mick

Ps...How much are they charging you per kg for them...

they are just the "best" for some recipes, the colour and firmness makes them ideal for a lot of stuff (and I don't mind them) you can get fillets for around $13 to about $16 a KG sometimes more, but thats about the average, hey snelly, and when you get too many, just pack a few off to me thanks very much! are they are common catch "in the wild" I sort of thought they were almost entirely farmed in Tassie!

The local fish farms here have lost alot of there better staff here Noel....So the new un experienced guys often accidently cut holes in the cages and hence...they escape...12 months ago they lost 80 000 5-6 kg atlantic salmon...yep..that is not a mis print...we are allowed to net here and it wouldnt be anything to get 100 -300 salmon in a net overnight...There is always lost stock here in our waters...The worst things is that if the fish do escape they die within 3-4 months as they just die of starvation.....The fish are fed from fingerlings to adulthood on pellets so when they escape they do not know how to feed.....

Cheers Mick

No , not really. But I seen a fisherman pull up in the street with a tinny in tow and I parked not far from him. When I was in the main shopping center, he when to the fish market and bought a hole snapper and then went strait back to the car and drove off.

What would you make of it? I think he just had a bad days fishing. But I did have a little laugh to my self. It did look a bit funny.

I can understand the question.
Go out in the boat all day, enjoy the peace, tranquility, quiet time and all else, catch and relaese all fish and do my bit for the next generation and release all!!!

"Tell him he's dreamin"

Then call into a co op for dinner.
Doesn't get any better than that!!!!!

Well perhaps it could if the second part of this response was correct.

Didn't catch any and had to bring some home!!!
Cheers

Bought a whole snapper huh! Me suspects he is not going fishing but visiting!!

Yeah FNQ,

Its a no brainer.
A diversion tactic, but most wives are not that silly.Either the bloke will have alcohol on his breath or the smell of sex on his body!(or both).
Better off enjoying being on the boat than on the mistress.
Less dangerous anyhow.

Well what ever the case maybe, He looked happy and proud of his catch. I must fess up myself, cos a few years back I made a bet that I would catch a nice feed for the BBQ but failed. So I went to the fish shop and bought A couple of whole fish to win the bet and save face.

But I got caught by my mate and found that there was no hook marks and had to pay him the bet.$$$

So come on guys, fess up. I can be the only one that as gone to fishshop to save the day.

And I think that what this bloke was doing. I hope he remembers to put some hook marks in it.;D
