I have a mate that has been thinking about upgrading his boat to a biggish cat. Now he has spotted a couple of mono's (773/233) that has sparked his interest. Now i have seen a few of these boats running twin 225 two strokes, but have also seen a few running single 225's or even 200's.
I'm after opinions on weather a 200/225 is enough to push these big 'ol girls. i have a 200hp 4 stroke suzuki on the back of my 213c and it does 47mph at WOT which i reckon is pretty quick. Are the 773/233's that much heavier?

Regards
Shane

773L - 1 x 225HP = 40mph
773L - 1 x 250HP = 47mph

they both struggle a bit with single 200 hp.theres a silver one in boat point at the moment with a curved windscreen ,single 225 merc it does 35 knts.the new e-d-e-n-c-r-a-f-t 233 with twin 150 s does 42 knts.these hulls love horse power thats why most you see have twins.
i would personally go at least twin 200,they are actually cheaper to run per mile than a single 200.
i have a new e-d-e-n-c-r-a-f-t 233 being built right now and im thinking the new 300 suzuki looks good.::)

Hey Shanos,

Check out www.satisfactionmarine.com.au (http://www.satisfactionmarine.com.au) used boats.

Thay have just opened a new yard and thay have a used 773L there, fitted with a 2001 250Hp outboard. It's a nice boat (i've driven it), and is not super quick but is more than you would need. I think a single 200 on that hull would be struggling.

I sold my formula about 2 years ago it hade a 225/4 yamaha i was pretty happy with the performance topped out at 73 kmh by the gps,a 200 would be ok there's a bloke on here that's got one, but it is the lower end for this weight.
