Hi everyone
Just wondering how many of us target only particular species of fish when we go out.
When I only had a tinny i used to only fish for flatties and got some good results. Best day was five all over 1.5kgs and kept only two.
Do you go out and target particular species or take what comes.:)
Ronnie
Always best to target a particular specie(s) of fish.
IMO it focuses your efforts and improves your results.
Target species are:
SALT - snapper, makerel, bream, flathead, whiting, jacks, bullies.
FRESH - bass, goldens, silvers, barra, redclaws, tilapia.
Most released (except tilapia) and always keep one or two for the table.

Target snapper but always manage to catch other species too

I love trolling. Anything that comes along is fine by me.

I'd have to agree with you at present. Seems all I can manage myself lately is a shovel nose to.
Maybe things will change tomorrow as we are heading for M:) oreton.

At the moment
Snapper, Snapper and Snapper.
The problem is nobody has told the Snapper. I wish the squire would;D

Heya RonnieH
I target species and also specific sizes of some species by altering the structure, depth, bait types, size of baits I use. I still get some bycatch though with some species liking the same as others to a degree such as tailor/squire/sweetlip in the bay, big snapper/jew in the bay, bream/cod, etc etc plus other blowins.
You can also use different tactics to avoid some species you don't want. That said you always take an opportunity if it is presented and if a school of tailor want to crash the party when I am targeting squire then so be it.
