Check out bidder 9 who incedently won the auction, I was going to bid above the end winning amount if I had to until I checked out bidder 9 and revised down to $330 max, hate getting suckered, there is always another.

So what do you think, did he win his own aution??:)

hi fnq,
what people do is they enter a maximum bid that they are willing to go to & untill somebody goes over that amout they will always be the highest bidder,if you look at the bidder info on bidder 9 you can see who it was & see other items thay have bought . its dam annoying when you get outbid like this .

Nah shubee check out 9s stats she has been been an ebayer for over a year and has made x amount of bids over that time but only ever on this sellers auctions!!

I am not real versed in ebay so I could have it bum about face but it reads like that to me.

fnq, you are spot on.
If bidder 9 has only ever bid on this one sellers items over a whole year, i think that tells you something.

I bet he lists it again soon saying that the last winner did not pay, blah blah blah.

That's good Damo I certainly would have won the auction if I went with what it was worth to me before I got wary (way back on one of 9s early bids) Actually yher was another sus bidder also!! Gotta watch your back on ebay it seems.

Has made me feel better about letting it go:)

cheers fnq

Very suss but remember it's only worth what your willing to pay for it.
In this case the seller keeps it and pays the e-bay fees :)

FNQ, I went back thru his other Auctions and yes he has a "Shill" bidder. Ebay can only act on the shill bidder if its coming from the same IP address. for intance if you list something and I bid it "up" for you. Theres nothing Ebay can do about it Looks like a mate of his has a dodgy Ebay account for shill bidding.

you did well to let it go

I have been dealing on ebay in alot of different categories for a few years now.

While I have never been burnt on ebay, bidding like you point out has been happening across the ebay board for years. Some categories are more prevalent than others, but it exists and will continue to exist for a long time.

WHY???????????

Because ebay make their money out of the sellers, not the buyers, and they will not jeopardise their market will they? You would like to think they would keep it straight in their market, but realistically, how do you conclusively prove it?

Caveat Emptor is the old saying.................. and sadly people will continue to be burnt because there is scum out there who will persist in ripping others off.

Anyone buying boats or boating bits (obviously applicable to many other categories also) sight unseen is a FOOL.

You are trusting someone you don't know, to sell you something you can't see and touch. How could you possibly expect a satisfactory outcome with every transaction?

Theres an old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted". I guess Ebay is founded on this saying....

For petes sake guys, be careful with ebay. Trust none of what you are told and little of what you see until you can personally inspect it.

So shill bidding it was, I will be taking more notice from now on, with that link to the pedistal seats, seems hardly worth it!, also in the gearbox bidding it would have been between me and no 10 (I think) so depending he could very easily have sold for near the final end price, but he chose to sucker himself.

So far running very very well ahead through ebay boat bits (had a rocky start), wouldn't bother with this crook seller again unless the price was really really worth the risk (leopards and spots and all that).

Anyone got one of those legs leaning up against the wall somewhere and would want a realistic price for it? - worth a try:)

I think Ebay is actually a far more transparent auction system than most.
Plenty of information on both the buyer and vendor.
Where else can you find this?
finga has mentioned the golden rule of auctions .Only bid up to what you are prepared to pay for it!
We know this one guy,a good repeat customer and mad keen new plant collector( but lacking in knowledge),who regularly buys plants and seeks advise from us.
Trouble is he has the problem of needing to win once he has begun to bid at an auction.
Its crazy and he knows it but he continues to do it.
There are plenty of times where he has bid far more (often $100 or more) for a single specimen of a plant because it has the tag of "very rare", "sought after" or "just released".
I,ve tried to explain to him that sometimes they are rare because they are in fact not at all sought after, difficult to grow or just a crap plant and that he could have bought it off me for $10.
Its guys like this(and I'm sure he is not alone) that are easy prey for vendors using dummy bidders.
We see on a daily basis people who pay more for there plants at auction on Ebay than can be bought from ours or another website.
People are strange.

ebay is a mine field to say the least
make sure you do your home work before you bid ask questions of the vendor that will give some clues to the quality
personally i wont buy any thing i cant go and look at
and only bid what amount im willing to lose
dead set some people when it comes to auctions are down right daft
i met a bloke who sells $2 coins on ebay for $1 bargain you say 5$ postage reakons he sells about 50 -60 a week read the fine print

If you have done your research and put in the maximum you are willing to pay you should be fine. If someone is willing to pay more dummy bidder or not just let them have it. I would prefer if seller just puts in a reserve starting price so you don't have to muck around but you cant have everything.

its quite comical watching a bidding war where the bid amount goes well over the 'buy it now' price, see it happen all to often ::)
but there are some good bargains to be had from the 'honest' ebayers out there

There's 2 sides to every coin ;D

I've had some good quality reels listed a while back & had a mate slip in a few bids to bump the price up to an agreed amount. Cause if they were going to go too cheap then I'd prefer to keep them.

We just arranged that if he got stuck as the highest bidder we'd go through the motions as if the transaction happened. I'd just keep the reels but lose a few bucks in fees.

They sold for excellent prices ;)

It's a market place. Keep your eyes open.

well all of you should really wake up to themselves,if people didnot buy things sight unseen as yous all think,no one would buy anything from websites, like ausfish, trading post,or online auction sites.
Why have a whing about it,report it to ebay if YOU ALL ARE THAT BLOODY WELL CONCERNED,i`ve been trading quite successfully on ebay for the last 15 years and had a few problems from whinging bastads like yourselves-WAKE UP TO YOURSELVES- GET A LIFE-GO FISHING!!!!!

Haggus,

I find it amusing that you have been dealing with Ebay for 15 years yet it was only launched in 1995.. you must go back a long way with them.

Royce I just checked the perps stuff for sale and the newly listed items have disappeared so possibly a short hiatus.

If nothing else it's nice to know they did act on the complaint.
