G'day fellow ausfishers,

While I was surfing the net, I came across this site (http://www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au/recreational/general/weigh_your_fish_with_a_ruler). I just wanted to know are there any other 'length to weight' charts around?

Hi Wyld fisher
We have those tapes, that are put out by NSW Fisheries. They are hard to get hold of.
The problem with them is that they only cover a limited amount of Fish Species.
Not sure if there is anything similar available elsewhere.

I'd take em with a big grain of salt, variation of weight for length is huge. Depends on the condition of the fish.

IE my longest yellow belly caught was 70cm, out of a water hole in western Queensland, but my heaviest was only 56cm, out of Glenlyon Dam. The waterhole had bugger all food in it, the Dam you could just about walk on the shrimp that were in the weed beds.

ANSA Qld have a length to weight table for most common fish in Qld. Not sure whether it is on the website, but you can have a look at www.ansaqld.com.au (http://www.ansaqld.com.au) There is also a length to weight formula for billfish.

I have had a good look at it and some of the weights look a bit out to me, but again there can be alot of variation between fish of the same species and size.

I think it is a good tool for people who want to release their fish and want to know approx how much it would have weighed.
