Hi All......

I am just curious about my Longtail. I have been seeing posts with different people calling different weights for their fish. As our scales only went to 20kg, we don't know exactly how much it weighed. I stand 5'8" and it was about 136cm long. I would just like to know what people think.

Eric, my opinion that is well over 20 kg. Top stuff. Don't tell me it only took you 15 minutes.::)

Here is a photo of one I caught that went 19.8 kg on certified scales.

Geez it was definately bigger than we gave it credit for.

It was actually Deb's 1st Longtail, took her 45 minutes. Few more lessons and she'll be down to 15mins ;D

Around the 24kg mark I reckon, the girth is where all the weight is on those subs and that ones round, top fish. Ben

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm over the moon knowing it was so big, especially my first, though I am not in a hurry to do it again at that size. 15-20kg will be plenty big enough for me to play with.

20-22kg its not the fattest thing around
that said i've caught fish off the rocks that look around 20 and go 17 or 18

Great fish! It's 21kg max I reckon. It's a reasonably long fish but not terribly bulky. I've measured plenty around 135cm that are only 18kg, and others that have gone 23kg. But you sure can tell when they hit the magic 20kg, they just have that bulkier look about them, nearly like an SBT. As for people saying 25+kg, you might want to "weight it before you say it".

Pics attached are: my dad with a 28.9kg fish, and partner with a 21.8kg longtail, also weighed on certified scales. These might let you gauge the size of your fish if you don't get to weight them.

longtails don't count unless you catch them from the rocks guys

Ha ha, the elitist attitude of the LBG fisho will never change, and will always be amusing. Fishing is not a competition, it's all about being out there and enjoying it, regardless of how you chase them.

Eric...I'd guess about 13kg at the most. You forgot to tell everyone that Deb only stands 4'7" tall. Why don't you just use photoshop next time::) .
