HI, does anyone remember a post here some time back from a guy who has a 25foot Berty and fitted outboards to it on pods?? a friend of mine has the same boat and is sick of the old mercruisers and wants to do the same, any leads about who made pods, what size motors were fitted will be much appreciated

I repowered with a single V8 volvo stern drive. Have a look at

http://www.25bertram.com/index.html

There are several on there with outboards and they may be able to give some feedback on pods etc.

What hp is he planning on fitting?

HP is undecided yet, he is THINKING maybe a pair of 175/200 mercs but he has to get the pod thing sorted out before he worries about the HP/brand

There is a 24 Huntsman open boat on the lake here that one of the marinas owns and it has 275hp Verado on a pod. I was talking to the mechanic today and he said 50mph :o

25k For the Verado approx, plus a pod and fitting it all $$$$

I know a guy down at horizon shores in rack storage who just fitted a 250 yamaha on pod to a 25 bertram,21 knots was at 5000 rpm at 50 ltph, at full throttle it did 28 knots. Its cheaper to repower them with a pair of 3ltr mercruisers at around 13000 a side. The pod on this particular won is far to buyont and has changed the boats characteristics dramatically. The only bertrams ive seen that have worked were twin riggs.Cheers Richard.

The big problem with pods is that it will change the character of the boat - a planing hull not designed for a pod is not designed for a pod! There are successful examples of podding but how do you know that your particular boat with the particular guy building it will give you a good result?

Wow thats thirsty! My Volvo is doing about 3200 rpm at 21knts using about 35ltph. WOT is about 33knts and hate to think what the consumption is.

The twin 3.0l is a good option but it means twice as much maintenance costs and two legs corroding away BUT extra safety when out wide and better manoeuvrability.

hey Snapper where abouts is the Berty that you know of? he will be more than interested in travelling to look/swap ideas before he goes ahead with the conversion.

Noelm,
There is a 25 berty up her in cairns, retrofitted 2 x 225 opti's, meant to go pretty good, though have heard reports of serious chine walking at higher speeds due to centre of gravity and no plaining plank.
Sorry cannot provide anymore info, don't know the blokes, although they seem to be happy with the setup.
