bob, from what i have read on the etecs, the battery on the etec is only used to crank the motor, the emm gets its power from the alternator, it operates at a different voltage to the battery. to be sure check with your evinrude dealer

Should be no different to using a battery isolation switch, the battery isolation switch fully disconnects the positive lead.

I thought you could rope start etecs without a battery ?

Yeah,the battery is optional.

Flat battery,no problem, just pull out the cord supplied with the engine and pretend your starting the lawnmower.

All the vital statistics are stored in the inbuilt computer system.

A good feature if you flatten your battery overnight 50km's off the coast.

How easy is it to pull start a 90hp??...... It is surprisingly easy if the motor has been well maintained! .... Actually everyone should have a go at doing it while at home to gain some experience!8-) .... Its a bugger to learn 20Nms out to sea in a pitching boat:( NAGG

Etecs have ROM so it boots every time you hit the key.. ie power it up.. disconnect the battery as many times as you like :o

I know your gunna ask so.. ROM is read only memory;D

shouldn't management systems be isolated from the battery when not in use as they draw a small amount of power and can flatten a battery over time?

e-tecs produce more amps then a standard car from what i have been told by my supervisor during my trianeeship also with the e-tecs iv noticed i started a 90 just by spinning the fly wheel it was that easy

not on the etec, the only thing to draw power from your battery is the onboard gear, gps ,sounder, etc and the etecs startermotor, the emm gets its power from the etcs alternator as soon as it starts to turn

Mick,
Just pop the black plastic cover off that is on top of the fly wheel if you need to use the rope. It just lifts off with minimal pressure.

The 90 is very easy to pull start, as WTFH said, just pop the plastic cowling up, wind the rope and pull. You only have to pull the fly wheel a 1/4 turn to fire the motor up, it's very easy.
