Can anyone advise me on what I need to do to keep a water tank clean?

We've got a 300 litre water tanks, usually the boat gets used every weekend so the water gets used and replaced regularly but at christmas the injector pump died and it's taken a few months to get it fixed, we took the boat out for a run today and the water stinks. Is there some sort of treatment or filter we should be using?

If you can get into the tank via an inspection hole, give it a really good clean & flush. You may have to add some chlorine to the water to get rid of the smell.

Contact a boat shop or a water tank dealer for more advice.

Think something like Milton baby bottle cleaner, steriliser might do the trick.
Read the instructions on the back, think it can be used for tank treatment aswell.

Try about 100mls of household bleach in the tank and leave for a day or so. This will clean everything out OK without ripping the guts out of the fittings. Then take it for a run before you empty it. You may still have a strong chlorine smell for a while but it will not hurt you
