View Full Version : Fuel tank levels
Hi Guys,
Just wondering what levels people keep their fuel tanks at in between trips.
I have a Zuke 150hp 4 stroke with a 200ltr tank and I usually keep it full to try and exclude moisture build up and it makes it easier to get the boat in the water for those spare of the moment fishing trips.
Cheers,

Hi maxi, I tend to go the other way, keep the tank as low as possible and top up with fresh fuel from a big servo when needed. I spent quite a bit having my motor repaired after detonation damaged pistons - the mechanic blamed dud fuel, who knows but I'm not keen to repeat the experience. The theory is that unleaded isn't very stable and loses octane after a month to 6 weeks, which can make your motor very unhappy.
I have an inline filter/seperator which catches water in the fuel so hopefully I'll avoid problems from that source. Best advice is probably to use the boat as often as possible!

i fill up before each trip. I go out enough so never sits idel or part empty too long between trips. Condensation never been an issue

I'm the same as Mike. Fill up before trips.
Also use a fuel stabiliser treatment from time to time and have a water trap type fuel filter.
No problems, touch wood.

no where to fill up at 3.30am around here so it gets filled after every trip.
stale fuel worries me as I usually only go through 10lt a trip in a 60lt tank once per week.
what addative do people use and how often?

Moisture is not the number one enemy and is totally controllable anyway. Besides can't see any other reason to keep a 200 litre tank full? 4S or 2S!

I have used Moreys upper cylinder fuel additive Its so hard to judge if it actually improves things. If you believe the writing on the bottle you would be mad not to use it.
