Hi Mad....never owned a one but driven plenty commercial 4 strokes.....they are having alot of trouble here in the aquaculture industry with the yammie 4 strokes ......have heard that because they want them to be as light as possible they make the block thickness as thin as possible .....resulting in many....here....blowing up....as i said ...i live in a small town....and know of at least 6 doing the same thing....2 had only done 50 hrs...they were 60 yammies....cheers mick

A pro in my area has a 100 4s yam on his trap boat. One of my mates knows him well. Has had it for 4-5 years know with no probs. Probably got 3-4000 hrs on it by now.

I was looking at the Yamaha 100/80 4s on a U.S. site and they are marketed over there as 90/75 hp.

Does anyone know anything about this? I believe there is the "Marketing exaggeration thing" where they are allowed to round the H.P. up to the nearest number, as long as it isn't more than 10% of the actual HP. I would have thought the yanks would have also done this.

don't think too many abb divers would use a 4 stroke, they have big two strokes that go as fast as the boat is capable of (and then some)

I was speaking to another Yamaha owner today....7 meter poly boat....twin 150 4 strokes...gearboxes shit themselves...replaced under warranty...they told him there was a design fault with the 150 yammie boxes...

A number of boat hire business's I know use Tohatsu for 2 stroke, Yamaha for 4 stroke. These motors are generally in the in the smaller Hp range, 12-30. I asked one of the operaters why a couple of months ago and he said "reliability mainly."
I admit I don't know a great deal about marine engines yet, so I can't vouch for this 100%. But just thought it interseting in the light of some of the bad outcomes that people know of.
