do a bit of a search on a thread about "playpen" was eaten out by white ants, or search colacgirl. Been a lot of others done on this site and there are lots of willing helpers. We do ask for progress reports with pic's though.. Some early tips
it will cost a LOT more than your budget
Blood sweat and tears is the order of the day
Its not that hard but you will require paitance
ask away
cheers

jeff websters "secondhand boat secrets" has a lot of good info and photos on transoms, stringers etc.
you can get it at most newsagents.

there is only two things to remember when restoring a boat, #1 it will cost five times what you thought, #2 it will take ten times as long! oh, and 2b it will never quite be as good as you thought.

I bought this mag a couple of weeks ago. Interesting reading with good photos. Wish I had bought it before I started my transom.
I also borrowed a good book from the Library called (http://catalogue.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/uhtbin/cgisirsi.exe/NvxUYE7TnY/BEE/290023390/18/X245/XTITLE/Runabout+renovation+:)Runabout renovation : how to find and fix up and old fiberglass speedboat. by Jim Anderson, follow this link
http://catalogue.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/uhtbin/cgisirsi.exe/FBv4KgdKCH/BEE/290023390/9

BTW I agree 100% with NoelM
it will cost five times what you thought,
it will take ten times as long

But I did it, well most of it, and I got a very good result.

Good luck

HI Snapstick,

I am about to do the same thing with an 81 Glastron runabout. The transom is good but for peace of mind I am going to replace the floor. If you find any good info and wouldn't mind sharing it I would be all ears. And vice versa as well. I would even be willing throw my hat in the ring and give you hand ont he weekends when I have most of my spare time. Best way to learn something is to do it I reckon. That book "Second Hand Boat Workshop" is pretty good I bought a copy myself however it left me wanting more info still. It looks more like a big ad for the fibreglass company on the coast that actually did the repairs. I am going to start cutting my floor out next week as I have the week off so i'll post pics and reports and let you know hopw its going.

Unfortunately since the server upgrade, the White Ant thread no longer belongs to ColacGirl.... it now belongs to a silly username I originally signed up with :'(

That's not always true.... Play-Pen is so much better than we ever thought she'd be.

Unfortunately it turned out so well that each time we use it, Ross feels ill by time he's towed her to the ramp, and panics the majority of the time while we're in the water.

Beginning to think we should have re-named her Trailer Queen ::)

I just took a look at the White Ants in the Play-Pen thread and it looks like the upgrade dropped a lot of the photos.... but has left a clickable link in most cases.
