Jetty poles?

Does anyone know what those like springer poles/rods, that people use on a fixed jetty to keep your boat off/out abit from bumping or getting caught under the jetty when you tie up?
Where would I buy them new or 2nd hand? and a rough price?:-/

Geez I don't know but could you try some rope past down the middle of some stiff thick black 3/4 inch polythene pipe. Tie the rope off so the pipe has a bend in it, (give it some spring) That might take the shock and compression just as well as any 900 dollar set up.

What about a peice of pole at either end of a shick absorber?
That way you have shock loading prevention and eyelets at either end so it has up/down movement. Just a though.

So instead of 1800 to 2000 for whips what about a cheap, second hand short pontoon between the jetty and the boat.

Then get some 100 or 150 stormwater PVC and instal it as piles on the outer edge of the jetty and water drill it into the sand / clay or whatever is below the jetty.

When its down a meter or so fill the "piles" with those dry bags of ready to go concrete.

The pontoon goes up and down against the piles and the boat is secure on the pontoon with appropriately spaced fenders. Pontoons with fenders are a lot easier on boats.

There you go; this weekends project and even without the pontoon the pvc is a lot easier on the boat too.

G'day
there's nothing wrong with 2 or 3 fenders in conjunction with correctly adjusted bow and stern ropes, and of course a fore and aft springer

I just use 3 fenders and three ropes on my 25'. Not the best but does the job, if I know there is going to be really strong winds I put the boat on the mooring.
