Hi Guys (and gals)
I managed to get a spot on REELAX a 30' Blackwatch fishing the RIVIERA Light Tackle Billfish Tournament this weekend.
Its strictly an 8 Kilo (16lb) tournament with all Billfish to be tagged, and only other species eligible for weighing as long as they weigh more than 8 Kilos. Usually Mahi Mahi and Wahoo are weighed as by-catch.
Day 1 say 29 marlin tagged out of 47 boats. Fishing was patchy, and a lot of boats dropped fish as the Billies were biting kinda strange. We had huge king tides here this weekend, so that may have had something to do with the bite.
Day 2. We finished early due to crew commitments, but we dropped 3 on GAR (our inexperience with bait) and we also dropped one on a Pakula lure as the lady angler was in the head at the time, and couldnt get to the rod quickly enough to control the fish and go to sunset to keep the extremely light guage hooks we use in the fish !
IIts a great fun tournament.. with boats of all shapes and sizes competing due to the close proximity of the fishery (no deeper than around 24 fathoms at this time of year)
I hope you enjoy the PHOTOS....
