A friend of mine recently informed me that there was a first time visitor to Somerset a few weeks back and he did`nt hold a boating permit for the day.

I believe the rangers booked him out on the water....$150!!!

This angler was really pissed orf and vowed never to return to Somerset.

Yes, he did the wrong thing by not purchasing a permit, but $150???? Wow, thats steep!!

Everytime I have been approached up there, and opps, I have`nt had a boating permit, they always just sell me a daily one. Not a $150 fine!!

What are others views?

Sounds a bit harsh, but I guess in the questioning if he stated that he knew you were supposed to get the permit and he didn't bother or didn't want to then he has run the risk and got caught, to bad so sad. If he has not known then he should have been escorted off the dam. etc. etc. until he has one . Little bit hard to say either way without knowing all the fact of the offence. Gone are the days where warnings are giving in preference to fines.

Cheers

Are these boating permits available at the kiosk at Kirkleagh? Never been out there and if everything goes to plan should be there in a few weeks time for an enjoyable weekend. Don't want any fines to wreck a good weekend does one.

AS Whitto said somewhere else, camping, boating & SIP permits are all available at the kiosk at Somerset. It is open 7 days a week.

Hope you catch a biggun!!
