I am about to buy a fish finder for freshwater use mainly, and have about $400-650 to spend, i was looking at the humminbird matrix 37X. Does anyone have one of these or other suggestions on a fish finder for use in rivers and lakes mainly? The advice i have recieved seems to be to get a fish finder like the humminbird with dual frequencies?

I run a Matrix 35 and a Lowrance X135 side by side. If I only had one, it would be the Matrix. More useable features for freshwater, and the side scan is awesome for rivers. You can also add the GPS and Weathersense to it. Matrix wins hands down.

The Matix 37 gives 90 degree total coverage in 3 frequencies from 4 beams.

Are a great unit to cover large bottom area or out to the sides.

Lowrance X125 is a top unit for less than $500
