Colleges Crossing is tidal, however the water is normally quite fresh (not salty).

When I first moved to Ipswich, in 1973, Colleges Crossing was the most beatiful place you could imagine. Thousands of people used to go there on hot summer evenings just to soak in the cool fresh water. I used to often take my kids to cool off and have a bit of fun. Magic!

Now, they have improved it and it's no different from anywhere else. There is a park for the little kids which is hardly used. Is the kiosk still there? I think it died from lack of patrionage. See the big stagnent pool full of weeds, catfish and tilapia? It was supposed to be for little boats to paddle around in.

What a disaster! Thanks Ipswich and West Moreton council for thinking you could improve on nature, or was it the money everybody made from dredging it?

yes frsh water prawns of shrimp.

I use gar or mullet in a ophra house pot and through it in to the weeds, night time is the best and check them every 15 mins and you should have a couple of big ones.

Used to have great days out at the little weir below the Mt Crosby weir.

Then the yobbo element moved in and left rubbish & broken glass everywhere so access bared.

Then they improved the crossing and ended up stuffing it up even more.

I like to put in my canoe at Colleges crossing and paddle upstream.

It is a beautiful part of the world up there.

Make sure to take your polarised sun glasses so as to see into the water.

At times, particularly after a long stretch of dry weather when all the mullet congregate up there it feels like you are floating over an aquarium.

PS:
If you ever see a big guy with a beard sitting in the middle of a 3 man canoe up that way make sure you say G'day as it is probably me.
