I have had plenty of experience fishing awoonga and I suggest to stick with the lures. Ive tried live banded grunter and redclaw that i caught from the dam and caught nothing but catfish. I have always succeded using hardbody lure such: Killalure Barra classic and predatek vipers. The barra are probly starting to slow down due to cooling weather but try fishing along the edge of timbers in the deeper water. Most of my success has been from working the shallow bays of an afternoon picking up my best fish 25kg along a nice patch of weed on the edge of a drop off.
