Mate you hit the nail on the head, WORMS. I find garden worms are by farm the best choice, other then that you could try bread .

when fishing on holidays in Jerrildrie, we found (by accident) that batter was the go. the kind that fish and chip shops use. dunno why. but our results were excellent

I use to target these critters down in Victoria. Found the best bait was dough made at home with flour and water and alternatively corn kernels.

Agree with frazzel burley up with corn kernels and thread same onto the hook and away you go! Good for the kids as it stays on the hook a bit better than dough.

I live in south brisbane and used to head out to the albert river chasing them...I dont know what sort of tree it is, but there is a certain tree that lines some sections of the bank on the albert and it has a purple berry that grows on it.
We found these were excellent baits, as the carp were always under these trees just waiting for one to drop. squash a treble into it and you are ready to go.
they worked that well we even tied flies to match these berries and had a ball on the good ol' 6 weight. but we did find they didnt work while the berries were still green (not ripe). had to find the purple ones. These berries were about half the size of a golfball.

Just past Beadesert we were fishing in only 2 foot of water in a small river. About dusk we could hear a very strange sound which turned out to be the carp using their lips to dig into the far river bank(Only 12 or so feet across from me.
The carp were trying to dislodge insects etc. Using a big worm and no weights we cast onto the bank and let the worm fall into the water. BANG!
Between us we filled two eskies with carp all over 5 kilos. I don't lke the bones in them but for my fishing mate they kept his family fed for months...

Ive found that bread in the lard off the BBQ works a treat. We've always thrown them into gardens and stuff never considered eating them. What are they like to eat, I would imagine like chewing on an thong that has been worn on numerous trips through the mangroves.

If corn works for carp, has any1 tried corn for Black Bream or any other freshwater species?. I reckon it would work alright - cheap, millions of them, bright yellow colour - ;D sold.
Has any1 tried it?

Steve, if you can get a hold of chook layer pellets and burley the area you will be fishing the night before and then use, as been mentioned, corn kernels, worms, dough ect. The kids will have a ball. Have a great Easter.

well i got a neighbour from italy and he targets them since he was a little kid he swears by corn kernels or dough mixed with sweet paprika powder hope this helps cheers
There is no need to get to fussy, when fishing in the Namoi, I found worms dug up from the nearby soil made the best bait along with mussels from the River.
Just remember >>>>>>> DON'T PUT THEM BACK.
cheers roz

I haven't tried corn kernels or dough but prawns, cheese, and ham used to work well in our little dam.

Take an iron pot, place a stone in it and a freshly caught carp. Add plenty of salt and pepper. Boil until the stone is soft. Remove the carp and bury it. Eat the stone!...................add a few corn kernels if required. ::)

buy some bread crumbs from Wollies,
put in a bowl
mix in some corn.
little (I mean little water) keep stiring mixing and mixing..
squeeze a small amount into the size of a plum if it falls apart add more water (little at a time.)
until its firm and breaks up very soon after hitting the water.(this is how you want it!)
(if your fishing flowing water, or deep water you may want it a bit stickier so add more water to make it sink better without breaking up.)
Fish using a float a small sinkers (known as shot.)
Fine line , around 5lb!
Small hook (size 14/12/10) you wil have to look very hard to get these hooks.!
sink the float right to the tip (so only the very tip is showing.)
Chuck out about 6 balls of the bearley (groundbait/breadcrumbs) and fish over the top with Corn)
Another method is a straight lead weight (running rig) and hair rig some corn (or if your not sure on how to do this , just hook the corn as normal.)
Do a search on "coarse fishing" in Google. and you will come up with some great methods.
The coarse fishing methods are simple effective method and you will catch more, I promise!
If you want to find out more about Coarse fishing in South East QLD. PM me!
or if anyone wants any tips on how to catch more fish using Worm/corn/maggots , PM me.
Cheers.
and good luck.

Thanks for the recipes on how to catch them. I have used the float technique but #prefer to use no weight or float.
It seems to me after years of carp fishing in Europe, that the lighter the line the bigger the fish ! I normally never strike and set the hook until well into the third run. I use a dough mixed to the consistency of bakers dough and well cover the hook, rolling it between my palms into a ball. This is normally better accepted than any other shape....................But where are the big ones to be found in southern queensland??...............I'd like to talk to you more on the subject of Carp fishing. ;D

Since it's the kids, why not breed up some gents? Work well as bait, and you get the added benefit of the "EWWWWWWW" factor whenever the girls need to bait 'em up. ;)

Anyone from Sydney, sneak into Centennial park at first light, go to the center of the park where the canteen is. Use creamed corn for burley and three or four kernels on small hooks. Use 1 kg line. You will have great sport, and probably land 1 out of 4 fish. They go straight for the lilly pads about 15 meters away, If you can stop their first run you will land them....Pretty decent sized fish around the 5-7 kg mark....4years ago anyway. once I burleyed it took around 10mins for the fish to arrive. BTW Not supposed to fish there. Sean :)

I'm not sure if this happens in every state, but in sth oz its illegal to throw them back after you catch them.
All they're good for is target practice or set your scope up on your rifle
