I'm heading up to Kirkleigh with Weretrout in the moaning (that's the bit before the morning) and have never fished this part of somerset before, anyone got tips on locations to find yellas and bass within paddling distance of the ramp? I'll be trolling hard bodies and casting SPs.

Don't get up there too early as you wont be able to get in before 7am.

If you want to get on the water for a sunrise session, you need to get there the night before.

And if you get there too late in the evening you can't get in either :o :o :o

just try and launch close by then,
im sure you could get in close somewhere.

worst case scenario ring your mate and meet at the spit instead

The last time I was at Kirkleigh the best fish I found was in the 6knot zone. bass up on the humps where it was rising from 30ft upto 10/15 ft with yellas down the sides. I trolled through the zone till I found good shows on the sounder then threw SP. not a lot of size in the bass but great fun.

cheers John

In the 6 knot area is where I've found hard bodies to be successful. If you don't have a lot of action, try the bank on the port side after you get out of the 6 knot zone. Sometimes worth drifting around the last of the big markers on that side with soft plastics for a yella. If you want to be there early, give the gate a ring on 54971093. They might give you an access code and pay later. I'm going there this morning for a couple of days.
