3 Year ago we stocked our property dams with the above baby fish! Following the heavy rain this week we have discovered a Silver Perch beached on the dam overflow area, dead.

We now know that our babies have grown and unfortunately may be leaving home!

Can someone advise the best bait for nabbing the runaways! Are these type of fish bottom feeders?

Sorry, we are novices (so obivous!).

hey glasshouse,

I've never caught a silver perch before but lots of yellowbelly!. They tend to be a bottom dwelling fish. try using live worms, live shrimp, small live crayfish or fresh (uncooked) red meat, they've all worked for me.

good luck

try throwing a few jackalls or spinnerbaits for the yellas

Best bait for the Silver Perch would be garden worms and use a small long shanked hook. Hook size depends on the size of fish but start by using a size 12. Fish the same way as you would for Yellow Belly.

Silver perch can be very tricky fish to hook. They tend to have the ability to get the worm off without hooking themselves from my experience, but they definitely are tasty to eat.

Hi Glasshouse

It maybe too late as you friends may have all gone.

But try a float with a bunch of gardens worms on the hook
that should work
