Are Trevally and Queenfish a nice table fish?

I caught a 14lb golden up at inskip a few years ago, i bled it and filleted it straight away and then skinned the fillets. I thought it was a great eating fish. Big thick fillets.

Geoff

I'm sure most will say they are edible, but there are better fish in the sea.

That said, I now usually keep any silver trevally that I pick up as bycatch because i like them smoked. And a couple of years ago we caught a queenie off Magnetic Island on a lure that tore him around so much in the mouth that there was no point returning him. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of eating

Both make a great SASHIMI dish........larger fish can be a bit dry

FRESH is BEST

Absolutely !

Bleed them as said, and sashimi is good, or marinate them with a bit of soy sauce, garlic and ginger.. not for too long, maybe an hour, or as long as it takes to down 2 stubbies and heat the BBQ plate.

Not sure how they go frozen...

Golden Trevs are very good.
Tea Leaf not bad
GTs/silvers for bait/smokin
Queenies OK fresh
