Am wrestling with my finances to justify the cost of this reel for a trip to North-West OZ.

Any users of this reel have any feedback on its merits/problems:
ie: ease of use / recommended lines / rods etc

Maaaate, Just do it! I have a 100 and a 400 and have fished em hard for Jacks, Barra and big Sooties and everything else in between with Bionic Braid and can't fault them in any way. Most the blokes who have used mine have gone out and got themselves one not to long after. Everyone I know who has one is happy enough.
Good shopping and I hope you get what your looking for.

Hi,

We use the 250 here for Striped Bass and more in California.
They are really nice reels. Smooth(that's a Shimano trait) and reliable!

Have fun!

Hazy,
I bought 2 Calcutta 250's last year (His & Hers) they are excellent, we've caught Barra to 92cm long on them.

They cast smaller lures like Reidy Little lucifers easily. For rods I was advised on Steve Starling Barra by Shimano. Not a top shelf rod but we've caned ours and they perform as well as the reels.
