Penn 8500 has done plenty of good tuna and dolphin for me in the last few years, what are you planning on using it for.

G'day Pete,In my opinion it is more a case of geting a braid that is suitable for a spinning reel,I used Spider wire on a small Shimano and it was hopeless,I was then told to use Fireline but I went back to mono on my eggbeaters,I have all my overheads spooled with braid.

What size reel are we talking. I have a 6500 Baitrunner with 30lb super braid and have had no problems with it and I also have several Daiwa Regal Z and Shimano Aperto reels loaded with Fireline. I haven't had any trouble what so ever with the Fireline and think you will find it is by far and away the most popular braid or super line used on small reels. The main thing is to wind the line on tight, real tight and make sure you fill the spool right up, use backing if you have to (most likely will).

Cheers, Clutter.
